NEWSLETTER - Fall 2011

Sensei Dave and Sensei Jessica were promoted to Shodan in June.  Their tireless training efforts and excellent kata presentations are an inspiration to everyone, and I am very proud to have them as Black Belts.

Summer Classes Wrap-up

Summer Classes have been well attended and it is great to see so much enthusiasm for our Dojo.  Next summer we will consider splitting the well attended Children’s class into Novice and Advanced classes.

DOJO IS CLOSED on Thursday August 24th

All Adult Instructors will be travelling to Hanshi Doug Perry’s Camp in North Carolina.

Summer Day Camp

This year's Summer Camp was a great success.  Everyone had a lot of fun, learned lots of new martial arts techniques and history.  See Sensei Steve throughout the year if you are interested in Summer Camp during 2012!

Class Schedule

The Summer Class hours will end on Thursday, September 1st and the fall session with regular class hours will resume on Tuesday, September 6th.

Fall Schedule

All students who were in the Children’s Novice class on Monday and Wednesdays at 5.30pm will move to the 6.30pm class.

The regular Fall Schedule Begins on Tuesday September 6th.  Please visit the Class Schedule Page for our Fall Schedule.

2013 Trip to Okinawa

Although it seems a long way off, it is not too early to start planning, and saving, for this absolutely phenomenal trip to train with Hanshi Shuguro Nakazato in his personal Dojo, and with Hanshi Gibo in his Dojo.  There will be sightseeing, and special activities while we are there.  More details will follow, but mark your calendars for 10 days in July 2013 (tentative date).  We plan on taking about 25 students from our Dojo and other area Shorinkan member dojos, parents are welcome, any student under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.  Kyoshi Pat Haley will be our tour leader.  More details will follow over the next year.

Attention Brown Belts!

I want to remind all Brown Belts that a requirement of your Black belt grading is that you have completed 80 hours of teaching in classes other than your own.  Some consideration may be allowed due to inflexible work schedules, but you must speak to Sensei about it long before you run out of time.  This especially applies to those hoping to test for Black Belt next June.

2012 Black Belt Grading

Kyoshi Pat Haley (8th Dan) will be in attendance, as Vice-President of the Shorinryu Shorinkan Karate Association, and will join Kyoshi Rick Roberts (7th Dan) on the Grading Board.  We anticipate a number of candidates from various Dojos in Ontario.

Introductory Program for New Students

The 8 week Introductory Program is $129.00 plus 13% HST and includes a Gi.  Please tell your friends of your experiences at the dojo and invite them to try a couple of classes at no cost.

Fall Classes at the YMCA

The "Y" have asked us to teach an introductory class again this fall.  It will be similar to our Dojo Introductory program, but less intensive.  Any of the "Y" class students who may wish to continue in karate will join the dojo following this special intro program.

We are looking for Brown Belts to assist us with these classes.

"Welcome Back to an Exciting Year!!!"
      - Kyoshi Roberts & Sensei Steve
